Still not getting enough sleep :( But it was an OK run, my shins are not hurting as much...but my legs are very stiff and heavy feeling especially my calves. They get tighter and tighter during my run, don't really know whats going on with it.

You and me, Lori, will run pain-free sometime... If you have access to a bike, real or stationary, sometimes doing 15-20 minutes on it loosens up the muscles, warms up your legs and your run is better...

I hope you feel better soon!

I don't really know much about what your easy pace should be, but maybe you need to make your runs a bit easier until you're recovered more. Just an idea. I'm no expert.

Lucia... it is my dream to one day run painfree LOL. That will be the start of my "I have a dream" apeach LOL, sorry for being corny, I like you advise on trying to warm up my legs before I start.

Carolyn, I don't know what my easy pace should be either. It's difficult, I have lost about 30 seconds from my pace... so I think I keep trying to go at the pace I used to be able to do. It's very frustrating and discoraging. I think some of this is still lingering thyroid issues. I took my temp. this morning and it was 96.3, so even though my doctor is telling me I'm hyper. my temp is showing that I'm still hypo. I'm going to keep track on my temp. in the mornings for a while and see if it changes.

Do you have a recent race that you feel good about that you could use to figure out your different paces? If you do, I recommend the pace calculator at http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm. (I don't know if this will come through as a link - I don't know how to do links in comments.)

You just commented on my blog that you envy my speed. You're currently running just under a 10 minute mile. I usually run slower than that on my easy runs, especially the first few miles. Also, you've said before that you want to increase your mileage. In order to do that, and also maybe to help your shins, I'm wondering if you shouldn't slow down your pace a little bit more and make sure you're really running at an easy, conversational pace. You have to do that in order to increase mileage. Do that and your speed will improve.

(Here I am giving advice. I'm not sure if I should do that because I'm really a novice. Maybe someone like Snoqualmie, who's more experienced, will come along and back me up.)

Mine do that right before they go kabluie and rupture! It usually means I am not running enough easy days- SLOW easy days. I dunno. :(

From Metcalf Running on Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 15:51:33

OK... so I go out on the link that Carolyn sent me, and it shows a MUCH slower pace for easy runs then I ever have run. I will try tonight to run my miles at the easy pace.

I have never done a spasific training program and maybe it's time I really took things a bit more serious, maybe then I won't have as many problems as I'm having.

Thanks Carolyn, you link and the other information at the site has given me alot to think about.

It's a pay-it-forward kind of thing. I was running my daily runs too fast and needed to build mileage, and Snoqualmie told me to slow down and sent me the mcmillan running link.

That link is super cool. The bad/good thing about running every day is that most days need to be easy days. (hard lesson to learn ;) Recovery days need to follow every hard day. I have found too, that most days need to FEEL easy to me or I get a really "hurt" feeling, or like an injury is coming. Especially where you are healing, you maybe should consider running it really easy for a few weeks. You can still do your long runs to get ready for Moab, just be super slow. The one thing I have learned for sure from 2 calf pulls and 1 ham pull is that I would rather run everyday slow than take 6-12 weeks off to recover. I have had to be SO stinkin' patient with myself. It's really hard :(
