Well today was my hap-hazard attempt at trying to do some fartlek training. After seeing Carolyn's run today I thought I would give it a try. So I ran to the 21street pond. 2 mile warm-up then I have heard that it is 1 mile around the pond. I think it's slightly more though. So My feeble brain was trying to add the 25 sec. onto the time as I was running anticipating that I would need to pick-up the pace, and I never seemed to get it right LOL I swear it should not be this hard. I ended up doing 3 laps around the pond. The I turned back and my garmin was at 5.11 miles. So here I dicided to run up the hill at a good pace. I ran up it three times... at the top of the last time my garmin was at 6.00 miles exactly. Then I ran back to my car. Definatly not as planned or organized as it should be... but I felt pretty good with it. :)

Those are nice splits! I don't know much about fartlek, but really liked when we did a few days ago. If you are running along, I don't know that the exact number of seconds is that important, just the speeding up and slowing down. In our group, we quickly fell into the trap of not slowing down enough for the 30 second slow bits. This is important, since part of the training is to "feel" the difference in pace when you speed up/slow down. In the end, I think we were running the slow bits at about 9:30 and the fast bits at 6:00 - 8:00.
