I knew that I needed to run before work today, but I wasn't certain I would be able to do it. But when my alarm went off. I layed there and heard Sno's mantra "Don't think just go" I got up and dressed..."Don't think just go" "Don't think just go" I was out the door by 4:50 AM yep... the AM can you believe it!! After about a mile warm-up I got to a hill that when I read Carolyn's blog about hill sprints thought it might be a good one.... so I ran down and as I got to the bottom, in the street light checked my time and then ran back up. I did 3 hill sprints (don't think at my speed they can be considered sprints though) about 45-47 seconds on the hill. The run felt prettty good, I need to get new batteries for the head light if I'm going to continue in the mornings. Couldn't really track my pace too much because I could only see my garmin when I was under a street light. Don't know if this will be an every morning thing yet... but it is nice to be done with my run. Need to get some more sleep tonight .

My sisters are coming to my house tonight for some fun artsy stuff!

I'm so proud of you!! Welcome to the "Don't think, just go" club! Should we get jackets? I swear, it's my number one tool. I can write all the motivational speeches I want the night before and they won't do any good against the power of Right Brain and her desire for sleep.

The hill sprints in Hudson's book don't have to be that long. He starts people at 5 or 6 seconds and works up to 10. The hill should be fairly steep though. With shorter reps you can do more of them too. Carolyn and I got these from "Run Faster" by Brad Hudson. Not to be confused with hill repeats, which are longer and less steep, less intense.

Wonderful run, Lori! Wish I could join you for "creative stuff." But I'll be having Knit Night with some girlfriends so that's pretty similar. I'll think of you.

Thanks Sno, I dedicate this run to you. I think what I did today would be considered hill repeats. I think I will try to incorporate this a bit more into some runs. What pitch of grade would be a repeat vs. a sprint?

You would have a fun time at this sister date. My oldest sister is a textile artist. Weaving, spinning, knitting, sewing. You name it she is great at any type of textile. We are making scarves with salvy, yarns and some other things we are bringing. I try to take some pictures and post either here or on my other blog. Have fun at your Knit Night :)

I don't think there's a big difference in the grade of the hill between a hill repeat and a hill sprint, though a hill sprint might use a slightly steeper hill. And Sno is right. Hill sprints are of short duration - less than 10 seconds (I'm currently dong 8 seconds). Hill repeats are longer, like a minute or two.

As for seeing the Garmin in the dark, just press the power button once and release (don't hold it down like you would to turn it on or off). That should turn on a back light that will last for about 10 seconds and then turn off. I don't know what model of Garmin you have, but that works on mine, so maybe it will work on yours too.

Way to get out in the dark! And dang early too. I didn't make it out nearly that early this morning and wasn't out in the dark. As a result, I was horrendously late to work.

When I woke up this morning and heard the wind howling, I thought of the "Don't think just go" mantra, but it didn't work. I still lounged around in bed for nearly a half hour after my alarm went off. Don't order me one of those jackets yet.

Aw, come on, Carolyn! Oh, but I forgot rule #2: go to bed on time. That will mean different things to different people, but as long as I'm in my 7-8 hour zone I will "just go." It's hopeless if I stay up too late.

Lori, I'd say my sprints are on about 8%, sometimes higher, and my repeats are on 4-5%. The intensity is a big difference, because I'd never work at that sprint level for more than 10 seconds on a hill. I'm oxygen challenged.
