Didn't really have a plan to my run today, but it turned out to be pretty nice. There was only a few draw backs. 1. I forgot to pack socks so this was a bit weird to run without socks.. 2. With all the rain it has flooded the underpass at Wall ave. I didn't think it was too deep so I went for it. It was actually up to mid shin. So now I had no socks and slippy wet feet in my shoes. 3. At about the 4 mile mark I had tummy trouble. Due to the water under Wall ave. there was no one else on the path, so I thought I could do a potty break in the bushes. But I seem to have a mental block with this. Luckily there was a store that let me use their restroom. Tried to pick up the pace the last few blocks back to the car.

When I was running around the pond. I thought I saw a swan, but as I got closer to the side it was on I could see it was a pelican. I was very surprised. I know that there are some at the Great Salt Lake, but I never thought they would come this far north. It will be interesting to see if it's there again. Also there were two pretty little robin egg shells on the path, such a pretty color. I think they were just the pieces after the babies hatched.

Sounds like an exciting run. I can't believe you went that far with wet feet and no socks.

My parents get pelicans down in their neighborhood in Lehi all the time. It makes more sense for them though because they are near Utah Lake. Great run!

No socks and squishy shoes does not sound fun. However, the pelican and robin egg sitings are really cool!

I surprised myself that I ran as far as I did without socks and with squishy wet feet, but it really was not as bad as it sounds. When I first got my feel all wet, was the worst but after about 1/2 a mile they stopped sliding so much in my shoes. I thought I would get a blister... but i didn't :)

Great adventure, Lori!

Pelicans, herons, and other large water birds stray from their normal territory this time of year to take advantage of food supplies. Near my house, there is a heron who comes to the pond to prey on baby ducks this time of year. Never see him the rest of the year.

WOW Sno... that is cool! Thanks for letting me know that! I just thought it was so exciting to see him/her. Also thought to myself, No one else is going to see this. The pond is close to the road, but you really can't see it too well. I was the only one around the pond at the time. Just thought it was neat :)

Sounds like a great run! A real adventure. On my run there are baby geese now, and even though I hate geese, the babies are so cute. They just sort of wander around in the road as if they owned it.

You should have sat in the puddle and just went. Nobody would have noticed.

Burt OMGosh!!! That is just too gross. And besides the puddle was up the road a bit, I was closer to a pond and the river, but then you start to worry about water shead areas. But the other side of the path is the land fill so I guess I could have been OK there. But like I said the I have a mental block about the out in the open situation.
