So I had no expectation on how this race would go. When I woke up and got ready I really was not feeling too good. I eat my oatmeal and felt a bit better, but as I drove to the start I was eating a banana and my tummy started to churn a bit. The race was not too bad it started to rain pretty good right from the start, it got a bit windy and towards the end I was getting a bit cold. I needed to stop at a port-a-john at about mile 13. Shortly after that I started to try and pick people off, you know the game. So the first was a little girl with a pink scarf that was hanging out the back of her jacket... it looked like a pink tail. Then a big guy... then the guy that kept walking... I can't remember how many I got, the last one was an older guy, his name is Bill, but I was unable to get him. I was happy with the second place in my age division. The first place lady was way ahead of me. I will have to see where I am at on the cumulative results. I'll update when they post them. After the race I eat a couple of orange slices...stretched, then ran until the gamin reached 20 miles :) I got up the nerve to intoduce myself to His Majesty Walter! He was overall winner of the 30K and the cumulative races! Congratulations!

**Update: Third in my age division for the cumulative total of the races. There were only four ladies that finished all the races.

Nice Job!!! You did a great job picking people off...I have a hard time doing that successfully. Walter runs with us on Tues and Thursdays (Kelli and I) and don't let him fool you....I chick him all the time :) (j/k, I don't but I like to pretend, especially when he's on his recovery and I'm sprinting - yeah baby!!!)

I met Walter once. He's not all that intimidating. LOL.

Great job on this race even though you were not feeling great. The weather didn't sound like it was the greatest either.

Great job! I'm guessing that this was part race, part training run for Ogden for you. What a great way to get in a long run!

Great race (but cold sounding). Are you ready for Ogden?

Nice work, Lori!

Thanks everyone! Carolyn, like you said it's a nice way to get a long run in... getting ready for Ogden.

Maurine It was cold... and I don't know if I ever really feel confident that I'm ready for a marathon.

Congrats Lori, you rock! I envy you for having met Walter too :) Some day I'll make it out to Utah for a race with you guys!

Congratulations, Lori! I loved the "picking off" people story. What a great thing to concentrate on - maybe I'll try that!

From Metcalf Running on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 11:58:04 from 207.225.192.66

Sno, at the end of a long run... it can be a good distraction from what you are feeling. I don't pick people that are too far from me... just slowing edge up on them, them pass and move of to someone else. LOL
